A US Marshal was shot and confirmed dead after the serving of a warrant ended in gunfire on Thursday, January 18th. Two other officers were injured in the incident as well as the gunman.
According to Penn Live a terror suspect, Ahmed El-Mofty, was killed by police in a similar incident in very close proximity to the most recent shootout.
There is, as of yet, no information about the gunman or the warrant, but it is suspected that the incident with El-Mofty is related to the tragedy of today.
Rep. Lou Barletta tweeted this morning about the incident.
Please pray for the police officers injured in Harrisburg this morning. Our police are tough and put their lives on the line everyday to keep communities safe. I am praying for a speedy recovery! https://t.co/7kE7uJ0pJp

Mayor Eric Papenfuse made a statement, saying “Harrisburg mourns the loss this morning of a U.S. Marshal who died protecting our residents.”
It is important in this New Year as we see increasing hostilities from fractured communities that we support those men and women who put their lives on the line every day to keep us all safe.
