Congressman Keith Ellison (D – Minn.), deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee, tweeted the following on Wednesday in support of antifa, whose activities have been labeled as “domestic terrorist violence” by the Department of Homeland Security:

The book pictured, Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook, by Mark Bray, is described as both a historical account of various counter-movements to European fascism and a guide for would-be antifa activists, meaning it not only advocates for violence, but also instructs it’s readers how to best use violence to accomplish antifa’s goals, which include overthrowing the “fascist regime” of President Trump.
Not surprisingly, Keith Ellison, a democrat and Muslim, was met with support from left leaning news sources, such as Newsweek. In a recent article, he was not only defended for his endorsement of antifa, but also painted as a victim for being called out by Fox, Gateway Pundit, and InfoWars. While these right leaning sources criticized Ellison for supporting terrorist activities in the hopes of striking “fear into the heart of” President Trump, Newsweek claimed that Ellison was unfairly met with an “anti-Muslim and racist backlash.” Since, according to the left, everything has to boil down to identity, the only possible reason anyone would have a problem with his tweet is if they’re Islamaphobic racists.
Antifa, short for anti-fascist, is not an organized group; rather, it is a movement and conglomeration of independent groups who stand opposed to fascism, as they interpret it. Members of the movement see themselves as brave warriors, fighting the oppressive, racist, white supremacist, sexist, Islamaphobic, xenophobic, [insert-buzzword-here] powers they see rising in America in support of President Trump. In reality, the movement does little more than make threats, whine about white guilt, and cause violent disruptions, most notably at leftist strongholds such as UC Berkeley, where antifa protests and attacks made headlines several times over the past year.
The fact that the deputy chairman of the DNC would support such terrorist activities is just another example of how far-left the Democrats have become. Add in the fact that no major left leaning media outlet condemned him for doing so, and it’s no wonder why such a divide exists in the media and the country at large. Americans deserve better than this.
