Pro-tip: if you aren’t smart enough to pass the Penn State entrance exam, you probably aren’t smart enough to get away with cheating on it.
According to Reuters, former international Penn State student Leyi Huang will be sent back to China after admitting that she cheated on her entrance exam last year. Cheating on entrance exams for the purpose of gaining a Student Visa is a violation of US federal law. Huang was given the choice between 5 years in prison or leaving the country; she chose the latter.
Leyi Huang paid $3,000 USD to have a Cambridge student Yue Wang illegally take her Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) entrance exam.
Cheating on this exam is effectively defrauding the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is taken very seriously.
Exam cheating is a widespread problem in China and it is almost certain to be just as widespread among Chinese students in the United States.
